Bright Lights Awards Ceremony (BLAC) will be honouring fabulous contributions from the grassroots African-Caribbean community; honouring, celebrating and embracing the very best success stories across all walks of life in the UK.
Thursday 30 April 2020 The ILEC Conference Centre, 47 Lillie Road Fulham SW6 1UD 6pm – Midnight.
Images of crime and unemployment within our communities are often thrust into millions of homes in the UK and elsewhere after yet another spate of gang or knife violence followed by soundbites such as “lack of role models”, “no father figure”, “single-parent household”,“lack of discipline”,“mental health issues”, drill music”, “drugs”, “pupil referral units”, and so on and so forth. What needs to be made clear is that these statements coupled with the negative images can lead to harmful stereotyping especially towards young black people who live, work and study in these communities. The narrative needs to change and this is what BLAC aims to do.
This inaugural event in its entirety has been almost 2years in the making and was borne out of the desire to counter such misrepresentative observations by highlighting and showcasing the strategic thinking and creative excellence that produce exceptional relationships between people (pretty much like yourselves!).
BLAC will be highlighting inspirational role models in the fields of business, sport, media, mentoring, entertainment, activism, philanthropy and so much more, offering an array of amazing organisations and individuals. This is a perfect opportunity to say a massive “Thank You” to those who make our community such a wonderful place to live and work.
The ceremony will also include:
We are inviting local businesses and organisations to join us in making this UK-wide event truly special. As a recognised brand, your involvement would help highlight the importance of such an event and will be a wonderful opportunity for businesses and individuals to have visibility in front of esteemed personages, and a diverse and dynamic audience traversing the generations which will be of great benefit to all attendees.
